Perfect Place
We were looking for a hotel (inexpensive one) in Waikiki but not in the "busy" section of town. It was a good place for us.
The hotel is located in a quieter section of Waikiki near the Honolulu Zoo. The rooms were OK, but we weren't in there enough to be too fussy about it. For what we were looking for, it was satisfactory. |

unexpected good time
After deciding to spend our 25th anniversary in Hawaii, and choosing the Queen Kapiolani as our hotel, I began to red reviews on Tripadvisor. Some of the reviews weren't too complimentary at all. Having already "sealed the deal" with the travel agency, we decided to go with our decision. I can truly say to those of you who read reviews and make up your mind beforehand that you are going to have a bad experience: YOU WILL BE WRONG! We loved our room, and view of the ocean. The desk personell, as well as the maids we saw, were always ready to help us and very friendly. To say the location is great, as you have read before, is an understatement. We walked to most of the places we wanted to explore. The bus is only $2.00, and you can get anywhere in town if you check your schedule. (tip)- An information booth for tourists is located at the corner of the Zoo, and the man gave us everything we needed to catch the bus anywhere. We even went to Wal Mart! The local trolley system is great also. You can take the Blue line out to the North Shore and catch beautiful scenery along the way. Our trolley driver was like a paid tour guide! The best time we had on a day trip was with her. You've already read about the ABC stores being on every block, but the one down from the hotel toward the beach was less expensive than the ones in the middle of Waikki Beach where some of the better, newer hotels are. I got Kona coffee every night, for 69c, and heated it up the next am in the coffee pot in the room. (They charge $2 for the room coffee). Our room was very clean, even though the carpet may have a few stains (so does ours). Noise was zero, and as mentioned earlier, the view was gret, even of the mountains in the am. We had breakfast almost every am in the dining room. Pancakes, bacon, and eggs for under $6.00. We plan to return and stay on another island in a few years, and travel to Honolulu for a few days and the Queen Kapiolani will definetely be our destination on the beach. PS- the Hawaiian people are very friendlly, and several of them told us where to eat locally, and a few tips on what to see off the beaten path. I wish all places were as family-orientented and loving as they are! Make a reservation- you will be glad you did. |
