Food Type: Local Cuisine
Price Range: $$$$
Open: Daily 6:30am - 11:30am & 5:30pm - 9:30pm

Sweeping ocean views and brilliant island sunsets provide a magnificent backdrop to the oceanfront dining experience of Pahu i`a, where the indoors are caressed by tradewinds, the waves illuminated by the stars and the gentle surf endlessly soothes.

While the restaurants centrepiece is a brilliant aquarium (Pahu i`a in Hawaiian) its focal point is the vast cobalt blue ocean and rhythmic, rolling surf merely steps away.

At your table, our chefs pay homage to Hawaiis bounty and the surrounding Pacific Ocean. Combined with legendary Four Seasons hospitality and service, it is an inviting atmosphere of relaxed and casual elegance.

Naupaka Terrace, an extension of existing lanai seating, offers panoramic views of the ocean in an intimate setting. Naupaka kahakai is the name of a native Hawaiian shrub that grows naturally along Hawaii's beaches. Its white blossoms appear to be only half of a flower. Legend says that the flower is made whole by joining it with a "half flower" from the naupaka kuahiwi or mountain naupaka, which grows upland.

Four Seasons is the best!

Thank you very much for recommending the Fours Seasons Hualalai as a honeymoon destination. We had never heard of Hualalai, but of course we knew the Four Seasons name. Now we know it by reputation. The staff is excellent and made us feel like celebrities. They were always cheerful and more than willing to answer anything from where to eat, what to do today, where to find little hideaway places, etc. I can't even describe how beautiful this resort is. I felt like I was stepping into a different time and place, paradise indeed! The rooms are huge and the bathrooms are stunning. We had a an in-room shower and 2nd outside shower. We don't play golf, but the course was so beautiful, that we are planning to take lessons so that when we come back for our 5th aniiversary (we're already planning!), we can take advantage of that feature. It was a dream vacation and we want to say "Thanks" for being a part.

Best Resort on the Planet

I give the Four Seasons Hualalai a 6 stars out of 5 rating. It is absolutely impeccable. I've traveled to top notch resorts throughout the world and this definitely rates as my all-time favorite. Thank you Great Hawaii Vacations for getting me an impressively low rate.
Taylor, Beverly Hills, CA

Fabulous!

We've stayed at some pretty nice hotels in Hawaii (Fairmont Kea Lani, Princeville Resort and the Grand Hyatt to name a few) and this was, by far, the best service we've received. Everyone was very friendly and overly accommodating. The snorkeling in King's Pond is great as it's separate from the ocean and completely calm water. A great spot for new snorkelers.

What a Vacation!

The Waikoloa Colony Villas are some of the nicest condos we have ever vacationed in, we had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit. The furniture and appliances were all modern and new, the beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well-equipped. Our unit had high ceilings and a spacious living area. This property is a gated community and is very secure for families with children. Parking was no problem. The grounds and common areas: pools, barbecues, were constantly maintained. It seemed that the gardeners worked around the clock. The Waikoloa Colony Villas are a bit removed from the center of the action of Kailua Kona area. Hint: stop at Costco, just outside of the Kona airport and stock up, otherwise you'll have to drive into town for groceries. The Kings Shop's are within walking distance, but these are mostly high-end shops, gift shops and restaurants and a Starbucks. Hawaii has some great beaches, all within a 30 minute drive, our favorite is Hapuna Beach, beautiful sand and very clean. The Villas are great place to return to after a long day of swimming, snorkeling, golfing, hiking and sightseeing. What a wonderful place, really home, to return to at the end of the day.

Hapuna Beach is a great value

Had the opportunity to finally visit Hawaii. We've been to Maui and Oahu in previous years. We enjoyed the Big Island and especially we liked the accommodations at the Hapuna Beach Prince. We were debating between the Hapuna and some of the other hotels in the area like the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel. But the other hotels were simply out of our price range. Great Hawaii Vacations got us a good package with flights and a car. We had a tremendous view of the ocean from our room and we loved the beach. We spend hours upon hours just hanging out on the beach drinking mai tais.... it was very relaxing. We loved it!
Cindy Macintosh, Akron, OH

What a tremendous experience

We had the wonderul fortune of staying at the Hapuna Beach Prince. WOW!.... We stayed in a suite and was it worth every penny. This has to be one of the best hotels in the area. We just loved this. We cannot wait until to come back.
Kathy, Simi Valley, CA

AMAZING GETAWAY

This was our first time in Hawaii and we almost missed out on your beautiful resort. Our travel agent did not have a rating nor had she sent anyone there to report back. She wasn't certain if it was the place for us. But after reviewing your web site we decided it looked wonderful and made our accommodations. Wonderful does not do The Hapuna Prince justice. It was magnificent! If anyone is looking for a place that is beautiful, secluded, and very romantic yet close enough to do other activities, this is the place for you. The entire staff treated us like royalty and our room was beautiful. We toured two other islands and will return someday to Kona just because our stay at the Hapuna was like paradise.
Douglas & Christine Willey, Wattsburg, PA

Hapuna Beach is nice

Hi Great Hawaii Vacations. We got back from the Hapuna Beach Prince hotel this past August 2010. I was recommended to this the hotel by one of your agents. Eric's recommendation of the hotel was very good. The information provided was quite accurate. Although the Hapuna Beach isn't the most luxurious hotel I've ever been to, it certainly did meet my needs. It appeared that all the rooms had some sort of view of the ocean. The best part of the hotel was the beach. It's gorgeous. Although, I would have liked to stay at the Fairmont Orchid, for what I was willing to pay, the Hapuna Beach met my needs perfectly like a glove. Thanks GHV. We'll be back.
Doug P, Lauderdale, Fl

Nice Place to stay

The Beach was wonderful.....The help was nice and the room was very clean. The food was good, but kinda high in price. We had a very nice stay...LOVED THE BEACH!!!!!!!!!!

Hapuna Beach, Big Island, Is AMAZING!!!

We completely enjoyed our stay at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. From the grand reception area - open to the ocean - to the relaxing ocean view room with patio, it is exquisite. Leaving the patio doors open, we enjoyed listening to the ocean waves all night, after watching the beautiful sunsets. The hot tub and pool are easily accessible, and very nice and clean. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Upon check in, we were given chilled glasses of passion fruit juice - very refreshing after the long flight over! There is a choice of valet, outdoor, or covered parking. Even the workout facilities are filled with top-notch equipment. They definately have you, the guest, first in mind. The hotel is impeccably clean, inside and out. There are so many things to see and do on the Big Island, so rent a car and plan for at least 7 days to see it all. The price of food at the hotel restaurant is pretty steep, so we stocked our mini fridge with food from the Kona Walmart. Aside from that, if you are looking to enjoy a perfect vacation, this is the place. We will definately be returning as soon as we can!
Joni Bernard, Colorado Springs, CO

Great Beach, Decent Rooms

My husband and I just stayed at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, after a friend of mine suggested it. The hotel rooms are decent (nothing spectacular), but the beach in front and the views are what make this place great. We had one of the Premium Oceanview rooms, and we weren't sorry for a minute. The view was gorgeous every morning, and the beach was great for play and strolls alike. Daniel assisted us with our trip. We thought he communicated well with regard to the amenities and the overall condition of the hotel, so we weren't surprised when we arrived. The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is now on our list to consider for your next trip. Thanks again, Great Hawaii Vacations!
Farley D., Denver, CO

It's a good value

We stayed at the Hapuna Beach Prince this past year. We were on the Big Island for a only a few days. We liked the hotel. It's not fancy, but the rooms were comfortable, the service was good, and the beach was awesome. We may try another hotel like the Fairmont Orchid for our next trip, but we wouldn't mind staying at the Hapuna again. For what we paid, it was a good value.
Ronda Simpson, Bellevue, WA

Great Views and Best Beach on the Big Island

Like many of the other reviews I've read here, I've always found the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel a great value. The rooms aren't what makes this hotel great. It's the great view, the lack of crowds and the spectacular beach that makes this hotel a great option. I agree that the hotel needs a little love, but you'll be hard-pressed to find a location like this at such a great price. Daniel did a great job of arranging our whole package for the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. He got everything we asked for, and we couldn't have been happier. We're looking forward to getting another trip planned here soon!
Grant N., Renton, WA

Peaceful hotel

Thank you Great Hawaii Vacations, especially Patti Taylor for suggesting the Hapuna Beach Prince. I was looking for for some R and R, this was the perfect resort. The rooms were very nice and the staff was so amazing. I was able to see beautiful sunsets from my lanai, and talk long strolls on the beach. I have already referred Great Hawaii Vacations to 3 friends and they have all been thrilled with their service!

Loved the Amenities

My husband and I stayed at the Outrigger Fairway Villas for our honeymoon This was our first time in Hawaii. We loved our stay so much that we considered purchasing a unit! We stayed in unit D4 and had a gorgeous view of the golf course. Although we are not golfers, it was fun to watch others play from our unit. The location of FV is very quaint, yet convenient. Waikoloa is about 25 miles from Kona, so having the shops nearby was a plus especially when we ran out of a food/drug items. Being in Waikoloa also made us feel like we were on a remote pristine island. Kona is a little more commercialized so staying at the resort made it really feel like a vacation! It is so quiet at night. We LOVED our unit's amenities. It felt almost like home. Although not a full scale maid service, the cleaning staff did a wonderful job with keeping it clean enough for us to do a moderate amount of cleaning but still feel like you are on vacation. Our unit was moderately decorated with a tropical/Hawaiian motif. Unfortunetly the Managers are not real accomodating when we had concerns about noisy neighbors above our unit.
KD, Tulsa, OK

Wonderful

We had a three bedroom, three bath. My two grandsons in the room with twins, my daughter and her husband the king suite and I had the queen downstairs. It was beautifully decorated and comfortable. We were at the end so the only neighbor was next door and that was only for the last two nights. This was my third trip to Hawaii and the condo was wonderful. If I ever return, I will stay at the same place.

Very Nice Time!

Some friends of ours recommended Great Hawaii Vacations and the RoyalKona Hotel. We weren't disappointed with either. The hotel is built right on the edge of Kailua Bay and the views of the ocean and sunsets were spectacular! The room was quite large and comfortable and decorated with a tasteful Hawaiian decor. We had sliding louvered doors which led out to the balcony. The balconies are quite private, so we able to leave the doors open and hear the waves below us. We watched a lot of sunsets from there. It was also very close to town, and you could walk to all the bars and restaurants in town without getting in to your car. The town is very charming and has a lot of history behind it. It's great for strolling in the evening. The only negative, is that the pool area is very small, but the resort is an easy drive to many wonderful beach sites. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean. The view was terrific. And the location was perfect. All in all, one of the best vacations we ever had. Thank you for making it happen.

What an absolutely wonderful place

My family and I just returned from our first visit to Kona, Hawaii. We stayed at the Royal Kona Resort and the one phrase that would sum up our visit is "the photograhs don't do it justice". The staff was friendly, pleasant, and cooperative. The room was great and the price couldn't be beat. We usually ate breakfast at Don's The Beachcomber Restaurant right on site, and it was tremendous. When we did venture to have breakfast elsewhere, Don's couldn't be beat. Poolside adventures were terrific as well as Don's is located right next to the pool. Best Mai Tais in the world-No exaggeration. Kailua is located well within distance of any site you want to see and The Royal Kona Resort is perfectly located in Kailua. We were fortunate enough to see wild sea turtles in the private snorkeling lagoon (on the property), and my wife and I even felt confident and safe enough to leave our daughters in the room (14 and 10 yrs old) to go out alone for a romantice dinner. The luau there (even though we didn't attend that one-we could see it from the pool) was obviously beautiful and fun. The ocean crashed consistently against the volcanic rock just below the protective sea wall, and the sunset from the wall was magnificent. I wish that all of the people associated with the Royal Kona Resort could know just how please we were with our whole Hawaii experience (thanks much to them).

Loved Royal Kona!

We loved the Royal Kona! We were looking for a great value on the Big Island, just a clean place to lay our heads after busy days of sightseeing. Of course we contacted Patti Taylor at Great Hawaii Vacations, she has helped us plan many wonderful trips in the past years. The Royal Kona was more than we expected. I enjoyed my coffee every morning on my large lanai ... watching the resident sea turtle and some mornings I would catch a dolphin playing in the waters that front the resort. The rooms were clean & spacious, the staff was excellent. We would return to Royal Kona every afternoon and relax by the ocean front pool and then enjoy a yummy Mai Tai at Don the Beachcomber, the on site restaurant. We could then walk around the shops in Kona Town, have dinner and then walk back to our hotel. Convenience and relaxation, just what we ordered. Thank you Great Hawaii Vacations for another RIGHT ON recommendation!

Usually Very Good

We have been traveling to Hawaii for several years. When we are visiting the Big Island we have always stayed at the Royal Kona Resort and have reccomended it to our friends. The location is perfect, within walking distance, to downtown Kailua-Kona for my girl friend/wife. The last ime that we stayed here, 2 years ago, they were renovating the buildings and we were booked into a room that NEEDED renovation and was not acceptable. I complained at the desk, and the manager, personally, showed us other rooms, with an upgrade on a room with no extra charge. Clean rooms, good views, especially the corner, ocean front rooms where you have two large balconies, but you have to pay the price. They are continuing the renovations, so rooms in the main building may not be available. I have reservations for August 11, 2007, and will check this out again and post my response.

great hotel

This was surprisingly a great hotel. We had read some of the reviews stating it was under construction and noisy. We arrived to the hotel late as our flight had been delayed 4 hours and the night receptionist was very pleasant in attending to us.We thought the room was far better than we expected with a wonderful view of the ocean and amazing sunsets. The bar overlooking the ocean is a big asset with two of the best bartenders in town.(Garret and Kana). This hotel is in a great location for walking to the shops and restaurants if you don't want to hire a car.We had visited friends at the Hilton and the Sheraton and as nice as these hotels were we much preferred the Royal Kona for convenience and price. We will definately be back.
Holman, West Hills, Ca.

We stay at this hotel for 3-4 weeks every year and find the people, location and service great. If you want perfection, this is not the hotel for you. If you want friendly, comfortable, safe and a good price, this is the best spot where you can walk everywhere. The people that work in the hotel are like family and it's always like going home to relax after working all year. We come home refreshed and happy.
Barbara K., P.G., B.C.

A very pleasant stay

We had a very pleasant stay. The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom compact, but adequate. The aircon was noisy, but the ocean breeze allowed us to leave it off and leave the doors to the large corner balcony open overnight, which was fine. The restaurant was good, as were the many restaurants nearby, all very convenient. An excellent location. We have many beautiful sunset pictures as souvenirs of our stay at Kona and this very nice hotel.

First Time in Paradise

The Royal Kona Resort was much more than I expected. I came with a group of six people including my 85 year old mother. We all had a great time for the week that we stayed, the staff was super. It was very easy to get around even for the older people. Everything is right there in short walking distance. My mother in law was disapointed because she wanted to go also. We plan on coming back in November with my 93 year old mother-in-law and my 88 year old aunt (she wants to go snorkling). Royal Kona Resort will be easy and safe for them to get around by themselves. If you are looking for an absolute wonderful place to stay, I highly reccomend the Royal Kona Resort. What a great introduction to paradise.
Ron Porter, Aurora, Illinois

Renovated Rooms Are Great

We were hoping to save some money, so we booked one of the standard Bay Tower rooms. Big mistake. Those rooms are pretty old and need some updating (which the hotel freely admits). We spoke with a manager and he was kind enough to upgrade us to one of the renovated rooms in the Lagoon Tower. What a difference! The room was new and fresh feeling and the oceanview was great. As long as you're in one of the renovated towers (the other one is the Alii Tower I think) then I can't recommend this place enough. Great rooms, great location, great service. Overall, great hotel!
Johnny Kang, San Diego, CA

Great Value!

We recently stayed at the Royal Kona! loved it! rooms were nice and clean, small but nice pool. Beautiful sunsets, view of turtles swimming in the lagoon. fun little town to walk around at night!

Kanaloa At Kona a nice place to stay in Kona, Hawaii.

My family recently stayed at Kanaloa at Kona. We go to Kona yearly and this was our first stay at Kanaloa at Kona. We would definitely stay there again. Beautiful grounds, nice oceanfront pool area and our condominum was very nicely decorated and spacious.
Jaime, Lancaster, CA

Wonderful! Wonderful!

We have traveled to the Big Island four times each time staying at Kanaloa at Kona. It is paradise. Our only regret is not purchasing a unit during our first trip.
Carol, Ellicott City, MD

Whales Breaching

We stayed at Kanaloa At Kona on our Honeymoon. Couldn't have been any nicer. Grounds were immaculate and our view of the ocean was awe inspiring. Sunsets with the whales breaching was nice. Minutes to everywhere. For sure this is the best. Will be back
Lawrence, Huntington Beach, CA

Great place to stay

We just returned from our 6 night stay at the Kanaloa at Kona. We stayed in unit 103 (2 bedroom plus loft, fairway view) and it was beautiful! It also had 2 bathrooms, plus one in the loft. It was very clean and nicely decorated. Quite luxurious. The grounds were beautifully landscaped and the people were very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this resort and feel it deserves more than the average 3 stars. It is at the very least a 4 star resort. Great Hawaii vacations were also professional and helpful in planning our vacation. We all had a wonderful time and if we ever go to Hawaii again, we will book with them! We are so thankful for everything and their prices can't compare to any other agency! Sincerely. The Kendall's

Had a great time at the Fairmont Orchid

My wife and I had a truly terrific vacation at the Fairmont Orchid on the Big Island. I cannot say enough good things about the property. We loved our room which was spacious and well decorated. The pool was large and quite and it was easy to walk to the beach which was a few steps from the pool. We particularly enjoyed the casual restaurant by the pool. Most nights we would have a light dinner and enjoy the Hawaiian music of Dino. I also got a chance to use the gym at the property and the equipment was the best I have ever seen even in professional gyms. Also the treadmills faced the ocean for a lovely view while working out. Cannot wait to go back!
John, Toluca Lake, CA

Best Vacation Experience!

When we searched for a hotel, my 6 year old's desire was to see sea turtles. Not only did she see them, she swam with them. The room was gorgeous and comfortable, the pool and lagoon were wonderful as well. The food was first class, and the staff was very friendly and accomodating. Aside from donating a few golf balls to the "lava rough", we had a wonderful and relaxing time.

Favorite Hotel on the Big Island

This place is amazing. My husband and I decided to give the Orchid a try for our anniversary. We stayed at the Four Seasons Hualalai last year, but we wanted to save a little money this time around so settled on the Orchid. Are we glad we did! The rooms and service are amazing!! The Four Seasons is great, don't get me wrong, but we received comparable service and amenities at the Orchid for a fraction of the cost. The beach is fantastic, too, especially if you like to snorkel. We can't wait to go back!!

I could not have asked for a better quality room or service. Thanks again! We plan to celebrate our next anniversary there as well.
Angel T., Oklahoma City, OK

I could not believe how spectacular this resort is. The Fairmont Orchid had everything I could ask for in a vacation. Friendly staff, clean updated rooms, great pool and great golf! Thanks Great Hawaii Vacations! I'll be a return guest for sure.

I decided to bring my family to the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel because I had heard that my favorite actor, Kevin Costner had stayed here some years ago while filming Water World. We were all blown away. The place is just wonderful. The service, the amenities, the beach, the rooms - everything was just top notch. I hope to return real soon. Until then, we'll have to just relive our experience through the many photos we took while we were there.

True Aloha Spirit

The Mauna Lani restores your soul. Kurt Matsumoto and the entire staff provide the ultimate spirit of Aloha to all aspects of the Hotel. From the sacred fish ponds to the turtles in the lagoon to the Canoe House restaurant nothing falls short of excellent. The atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful. The beach is fantastic; the spa is world class. Learn watercolor techniques from various artists daily, but the best of them all is Candace Lee. Be sure to ask for Kurt at the front desk and tell him how much you appreciate your experience, and tell him hello for Lisa and me. We will always return to our home away from home. There is no equal for the Mauna Lani experience. Come and see for yourself...you won't ever want to go anywhere else.

Paradise Found

We were lucky enough to enjoy a weeks stay with our 4 adult children at this wonderful resort. Having stayed at various high end resorts on Maui and Oahu we were more than pleased with the Mauna Lani. Everything about the resort reflects the true Hawaiian spirit...all the employees are so pleasant, the rooms beautiful, and the grounds spectacular. It was a very relaxing vacation and we hope we are able to return sometime in the near future.

Was I dreaming?

Mauna Lani Hotel on the Big Island is a fabulous place with competent, extremely helpful and friendly staff, outstanding ambiance without the stiffness or snootiness of an expensive hotel and with all of the naturalness and exquisite beauty that one should expect in Hawaii. The hotel staff is well trained and the rooms and interior and exterior areas placed and designed for incredible views and natural beauty. This hotel is a top resort in the country with the number one spa in Hawaii and has won a green award! I just celebrated my birthday there with my husband and I can't say enough good about Mauna Lani. Thank you to all who made this a most memorable birthday.
