Excellent hotel at a very reasonable price. The view from the "Bay Rooms" is exceptionally nice. The hotel has an excellent Aloha spirit and is a full service hotel. The Hilo Hawaiian is probably the best hotel in Hilo.

The Hilo Hawaiian is approximately 45 minutes from Volcano National Park. Approximately 2-3 hours drive to Kailua-Kona.
Beach Information
Hilo Bay is not a swimming bay or beach. The weather conditions are not very favorable in Hilo and therefore going to the beach is an iffy proposition. If you desire to go to the beach it is a 20 minute drive from the Hilo Hawaiian.
Notes - All rooms are non-smoking; limited rooms available where smoking is allowed on the balcony only, no in room. Blacked out 4/6-4/11/10 & 7/4/10.
My friend recommended this place to me based on my desire to be near the Volcano National Park. It was a good choice. We had an oceanview hotel room. It was nice. We went by some of the other hotels near the area and they were kinda scary. We were happy with our choice even more after we saw the other options.

A Welcome
Having just spent a week at Hilo Hawaiian, we found the staff very friendly and helpful. The room we had didn't face the ocean, but that in no way spoiled our stay, and the top quality food more than made up for it. I certainly hope to return again when funds permit.
